P0300

Random or multiple cylinder misfire detected

P0300 means the engine control system has detected misfires occurring randomly or across multiple cylinders.

What this code means

P0300 means the engine control system has detected misfires occurring randomly or across multiple cylinders.

Possible causes

  • Worn spark plugs or ignition-system faults
  • Fuel-delivery problems
  • Vacuum or intake leaks
  • Injector problems
  • Low compression or other mechanical faults
  • Camshaft or crankshaft sensor issues

Common symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Rough idle
  • Poor acceleration
  • Stalling
  • Reduced fuel economy
  • Engine vibration or unusual running

Checks to make

  1. Read all stored and pending codes for cylinder-specific misfire information
  2. Check freeze-frame data
  3. Inspect ignition components and spark plugs
  4. Check fuel delivery, intake leaks and relevant live data
  5. Investigate compression or mechanical condition if ignition and fuel checks are satisfactory

Safety

  • A severe active misfire can overheat and damage the catalytic converter. If the warning light is flashing or the engine is running very poorly, stop driving and arrange diagnosis.
